IASLC Consensus Statement - July 7, 2011

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) position-writing committee has issued a call for physicians to discuss lung cancer screening with patients who match the high-risk smoking history of the people enrolled in the landmark National Lung Screening Trial (NLST). Participants in NLST: 55-74 years of age ?30 pack-year history of smoking Current smoker or former smoker who quit within prior 15 years.

National Lung Screening Trial Results - 11-4-2010

Mortality from lung cancer can be reduced by CT screening. 20% reduction in mortality from lung cancer for those screened with CT vs those screened with CXR. 7% less all cause mortality in group screened with low dose lung cancer screening CT scans.
